A survey I am undertaking as part of my dissertation:
Advertising – a reflection of our culture
To what extent do culture and advertising interrelate and what evidence can be found in modern day TV commercials?
This is a cross-cultural study of advertising and the effect it has on society, I will post more information closer to the hand-in date.
I spent hours and hours putting this survey together but it is already paying off as after only 5 days I have already received over 250 responses and from over 20 different countries, including Costa Rica, Zambia, Kyrgyzstan and Iceland! The benefits of facebook…
The statistics and text replies that came out of it so far are really impressive and very insightful, this could be the basis for a whole book!
In addition to the survey, written interviews have been conducted with media professionals that will also be part of the Appendix.
SOKO Köln - 12. Staffel, Block 2
I was employed as a set runner for the German TV series SOKO Köln (Production company Network Movie GmbH) for nearly three months (48 shooting days/6 movies)
My tasks included setting up the base every day (laying cables etc), supervision of extras and actors at the set, helping out with the catering, blocking roads, driving caravans, setlounges and delivery vans and supporting the Floor Manager on set
A few times I had to fill in for our Assistant Floor Manager as sickness cover, on those days I spent most of my time at the base and on the phone (talking to the Production Manager, Producers, agents etc), I had to coordinate our production drivers, make sure that the actors were on time with make-up and costume, had to do paper work etc.

This is the trailer for our short film “Freddie come home”. Edited by myself.
My current showreel, it’s a collection of my most recent work. Edited by myself.
This is my main third year project, I coordinated 25 students from over 10 UCF courses and Exeter university, worked with professional actors and took on the role of the Producer and DOP for this project.
Most actors involved have professional backgrounds, e.g. Jill Greenacre (our lead actress) has been part of the BBC sitcom “The Brittas Empire” and other film productions, Colin Matthews is regularly part of the cast for Rosamunde Pilcher film shoots which are based in Cornwall and Kathryn Lister has a great amount of acting experience, but mainly on stage.
A huge amount of troubleshooting was involved and I had to work hard to keep up with my time management, as I also work part-time during my studies. I am quite proud of this project and we’re all very curious to see the final outcome.
The schedule we were working on looked as follows:
Pre-Production: 1st Oct - 18th Nov 2012
Production: 21st Nov – 30th Nov 2012
Post-Production: 1st Dec – 31st Dec 2012
Mastering & Distribution: 1st Jan – 20th Oct 2013
Freddie come home film score
After the rehearsal with the actors late in the evening, I grabbed our composer, dragged him to a studio and quickly recorded him playing the Freddie soundtrack (sorry for bad quality, was a quick edit, we’re all very busy atm).
Finally - the trailer for our short film “Anna”, edited by myself.

This shoot was so much fun! Really hard work as well, but I enjoyed it a lot. So far I only found one video, it’s called Hiccup. There is another one called Nightmare, but I don’t think it’s online yet. But that was even more fun, we filmed at an amazing old mansion and also in the studio with greenscreen and interesting special effetcs. I will post it up here as soon as I find it.
For Hiccup we filmed at this really nice finca. I helped a lot with the Art Department there, it is quite funny to think that I’m actually hiding behind this flowerbed where Sonny (Max Maximov) waters the plants. At one take he poured it all over me which he found extremely funny ;) But I have to admit it was very refreshing, considering that we were standing under the really hot HMI Arri lights and had 38°C as well…
